Who we are

Montclair has a wealth of experience in sectors ranging from oil and gas and petrochemicals to finance, energy, defence and security and civilian infrastructure. Our activities are centred on the UAE, but our experience and network extends well beyond its borders. We have worked successfully for clients in Dubai, Qatar, North Africa, Asia, the Former Soviet Union and Latin America.


Montclair’s three principals are:

Alex Parsons


Alex is a senior political and strategic board-level advisor to multinational companies with interests in the Middle East. A former diplomat, Alex has advised major multinational companies with significant operations in the region on their political engagement strategy, while also giving board-level advice to AIM-listed companies with local joint-venture relationships.


Alex served in the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi from 2004–2007 and has been a regular visitor to the UAE since then, developing extensive relationships and a profound knowledge and understanding of the subtleties of politics and the wider commercial environment.


Alex founded Montclair in 2009 and has worked for a range of clients in the UK, the UAE and beyond on issues including direct investment, political and business development strategy and crisis management, He is a UK national and graduate of Edinburgh University.


Jamal Al Ramahi

Senior Advisor

Jamal brings Montclair 25 years’ experience at senior executive level in a number of Abu Dhabi’s most important institutions. Senior appointments include the Supreme Petroleum Council, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Borouge, the Abu Dhabi Ports Company and Senaat.


A UAE national, Jamal has strong educational and commercial ties to the United States and Asia. He is the Managing Partner, founder and CEO of Sage Capital Partners, Chicago, and a partner at an Abu Dhabi consulting firm providing services to multinational clients. Jamal is a graduate of Indiana State University.

Richard Oliver

Senior Advisor

Richard is a senior investment banker and business leader. He was Vice-Chairman, Global Banking, at HSBC in the UAE from 1995 to 2014, where he advised governments, government-related enterprises and prominent family firms. He worked briefly at the National Bank of Abu Dhabi as Regional CEO, Middle East and Africa, and now works at Nova, an Abu Dhabi entity.


An MA graduate of Oxford University with a First Class Politics and Economics degree and with an MBA (Finance) from City University, Richard has strong commercial banking background. Richard has a keen interest in the history, economics, politics and evolution of emerging and developing markets, primarily in the Middle East and Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union.


A UK national, Richard was Chairman of the British Business Group in Abu Dhabi for five years until 2016 and a member of the UAE/UK Business Council. He was Chairman of British Centres for Business Overseas Ltd until 2017, is a Council Member at Taurus Investment UAE Ltd, a Dubai entity and the Executive Vice-Chairman of Portsmouth Limited LLC, an Abu Dhabi Entity.
